Japanese stock indices ended the day sharply lower, with the Nikkei 225 recording the biggest one-day percentage fall since 1987. The Nikkei was down 1089.02 points, or 11.41%, lower at 8458.45. The broader-based TOPIX was down 90.99 points at 864.52.
